The Divine Legislator has consistently employed rational social systems to communicate religious injunctions to all morally responsible individuals. Given that human social systems are composed of interconnected subsystems, examining their components and relationships can yield problem-solving models. One such subsystem is the "rational system of commands and prohibitions." By analyzing the relationships between its components and defining its core elements, then mapping them onto divine commands and prohibitions, we can develop a "model of divine injunctions."
This study examines the efficacy of modeling in addressing fundamental questions of Islamic legal theory (usul al-fiqh). Utilizing network analysis and ontological analysis tools, the research progresses through three phases: (1) uncovering the rational command-prohibition system, (2) model development, and (3) model implementation. Findings demonstrate that this approach successfully analyzes foundational concepts (e.g., rational agents, commands/prohibitions) and elucidates their processes (e.g., how conventional perceptions relate to divine injunctions). The study concludes by recommending comprehensive modeling of major usul al-fiqh topics to enable systematic problem-solving.
